In Québec, a classification system has been put in place so that travellers have a reliable means of assessing accommodations.

All tourism establishments which offer accommodation in Québec are grouped into seven major categories. Each establishment receives an official attestation of its classification and it is obliged to have this sign posted at all times outside the building in clear public view.

In the youth hostel category, establishments are classified on a scale of 0 to 3 stars according to the Québec Tourism Industry Corporation’s chart.

Youth Hostel with elementary comfort where facilities and services meet classification standards of quality.

2 stars
Comfortable Youth Hostel with facilities of good quality which offers some services and products.

Very comfortable Youth Hostel with facilities of very good quality which offers a range of services and products.
