THE MONTREAL YOUTH HOSTEL WINS THE TOP PRIZE AT THE GRANDS PRIX DU TOURISME QUEBECOIS GALA FOR 2005
PRESS RELEASE For immediate release
Montréal, May 12, 2005 – The Montreal Youth Hostel is proud to have been awarded first prize in the category “Establishment offering accommodation between 50 and 149 rooms” in the national finals of the 20th Gala of the Quebec Tourism Awards for 2005 (Grands Prix du tourisme quebecois), which were held at the Québec City Convention Centre on May 6th of this year.
Every year, this prestigious gala pays homage to tourism businesses which have distinguished themselves by the professionalism of their services and the exceptional quality of their products.
In order to qualify for the national finals, the Montreal Youth Hostel had already been awarded the first prize in the same category in the Regional Tourism Awards (Grands Prix du tourisme regionaux), which were held on March 22nd of this year.
A leader in social tourism in Montreal, the Montreal Youth Hostel, member of Hostelling International, is a not-for-profit organization which strives to build a world without frontiers, a world of peace and tolerance, for young people from the four corners of the planet. It does this by offering a tourism product which is sustainable and well-intentioned, which takes account of the existing tourism industry and the fact that we must leave this world intact for future generations.
As Jacques Perreault, General Manager of the Montréal Youth Hostel, asserts: “This prize is a recognition of youth tourism as well as social tourism, both of which are sometimes perceived as the “poor relations” of the tourism industry. Social tourism is not in opposition to all other forms of tourism, it complements them and contributes to the diversity of the Québec tourism scene”.
